How it works …..

An implant-supported denture is supported and secured to implants. A regular denture rests on the gums causing pressure and sores.

An implant-supported denture is recommended for any person who is missing all lower teeth but has enough bone to support implants.  It is the only solution to secure a lower denture.

Implant-supported dentures are typically suggested for the lower because regular dentures are loose and just “float” there. Usually, a regular denture made to fit an upper jaw is quite stable on its own and doesn’t need the extra support offered by implants. However, you can receive an implant-supported denture on either the upper or lower jaw.

Types ….

There are several different types of implant-supported dentures: screw retained, bar-retained and ball-retained. In each case the denture will be made of an acrylic or porcelain base that will look like gums. Porcelain or composite teeth that look like natural teeth are attached to the base.  A various number of implants are required for each option.
